Oh my gosh! Nicole, our beautiful sweet friend and fellow midwife, had her 6th baby today! Nikos Socrates Maillis was born today at home at 2:58 pm in the water and caught by her own hands with the help of her husband Bubba! Nikos weighs 7 lbs 8 ozs! What joy we felt as she was attended by many midwives, many apprentices, many friends and many children. She is having a lotus birth and we know what fun this baby will have growing up with this sweet and energetic family! We love you so dearly Nicole. Thank you for inviting us all to participate in your birth. We are deeply grateful!!!

When a baby enters our world, she seeks connection, belonging, a gaze and an embrace filled awareness, welcome, and love. Current research is shedding more light on the amazing intelligence and capacities of the newborn, and on the decisive influence of her earliest experiences. Natural birth provides an immediate opportunity for bonding, without interference by anaesthesia, hospital routines, or unneeded surgery and recuperation. The Birth Center prepares and safeguards that unique space of bonding between parents and their newborn, both at birth and in the following weeks. Our comprehensive prenatal program supports mothers to make optimal decisions for their own and their baby's heath. Only two babies have been born at low birth weight with the Birth Center in the past twelve years, while more than one in ten babies in Taos County are born at low birth weight. We hope you will choose to support our midwives in providing families with such comprehensive and compassionatel maternity services. To make a tax-deductible donation of any size please Click here. You may also send a check to the Northern NM Birth Center at 1331 Maestas Road, Taos, NM 87571.
